At U.S. Shipping, safety is our highest priority, and we are proud to provide our customers with the safest mode of bulk transportation.
Operating in a strong safety culture, every member of our U.S. Shipping team has full accountability and full authority to stop work — any work at any time — to ensure the safety of our employees and cargoes or to protect the environment. Ongoing, behavior-based training is a key element of our safety program.
Highly integrated safety, quality, and environmental management systems enable us to provide the highest quality service without sacrificing safety or the protection of the environment. U.S. Shipping complies with all laws and regulations governing marine transportation and meets or exceeds rigorous third-party safety and quality standards. Committed to continuous improvement, we are propelled beyond mere compliance to exceeding requirements and continually expanding the criteria by which we measure our performance.
U.S. Shipping has achieved certification by:
- International Safety Management (ISM)
- The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
- Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) under the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) 9001 and 14001 standards
Our vessel crews have consistently been recognized for safe operations with the Jones F. Devlin Award, which is presented annually by the Chamber of Shipping of America to manned merchant vessels which have operated for two years or more without a crew member losing a full turn at watch due to injury. With great pride in the success we have achieved, we strive for continuous improvement and achievement of our goal of zero injuries.
